Bridges
AnnoyedUnintentionally, or possibly intentionally, I make sure I leave the remnants of the bridges intact. I write diaries, and I keep them. I write emails, and I save them. The most painful, embarrassing, shameful memories that most people would push away, I loosely attach myself to. I don't relive them every day, but they never leave.
I'm beginning to think that it isn't healthy.
Spring of last year, I tried to start an audio diary. I recorded one entry, which I saved and didn't listen to again until just now. I was honest and brutal. I was obviously very attached to a dangerous, unattainable fantasy of which everyone but me was weary. It was painful to listen to.
The bridge to that PLACE is gone. The bridge to that MEMORY is made of stone.
Recently, I watched two of my friends burn their bridge. Guiltily, I watched the flames in silent delight. I parked myself comfortably in the empty gap and obscured their views.
But the tide moves swiftly, and I couldn't stay in the gap for long. I happened to glance up from some paperwork today, and I noticed a blinking orange sign, "Bridge Under Construction."
I feel like this is my time for action. I should cease its construction for my own selfish reasons.
Maybe I should burn my own bridge and let them continue to build.
I know I could make him happier. I should focus on ME first.
